queen of the lark

This work speaks to nature, beauty, and loss. The Queen of the Lark protrudes from her arboreal domicile to greet her avian subjects. The birds flutter in their synthetic coloration while the carcass of a solitary bird lies motionless at her feet. She is abstractly carved from recycled polystyrene and is texturally detailed using heavy molding paste. The Queen inhabits her bold lined, illuminated tree of foam and wood. The bark is hued with raw umber and metallic golds providing cavernous depth and brilliant contrast. A close-up view of the queen’s portrait reveals glittering eyes made from iridescent metallic stone and flowing hair created from painted and textured recycled silk leaves. Her fluttering feathered accomplices were created from soft molding foam and painted acrylic sheets.
